Chinese Literature Today is proud to have outstanding students that contribute their time and effort to create wonderful book reviews and translations for the Journal.

Chinese Literature Today Student work (2014-2020)

20 OU students have published 21 book reviews and 21 translations in CLT since 2014.

2021 (1 student published 1 translation)

• Jack Broach, a Chinese major, translated “Humanity, Crisis, and Changes: An Interview with Liu Cixin,” which has been published on the CLT website.

2020 (3 students published 4 poem translations and 1 book review translation)

• Jake Seagroves, a Chinese major, translated two poems, “Cry” and “For Men’s Breathing,” both were published in CLT v9n2 (2020): 55-56.
• Jack Broach, a Chinese major, translated two poems, “We Are in Darkness” and “If I Still Live On,” both were published in CLT v9n2 (2020): 56-57.
• Andrew Huynh, a former Chinese major, translated a book review of Li Er’s novel Ying Wu, which was published in CLT v9n1 (2020): 104.

2019 (1 student published 1 book review and 1 translation)

• Tera Mills, a Chinese major, translated a book review of Jia Pingwa’s novel Shan Ben, which was published in CLT v8n2 (2019): 120.
• Tera Mills’s translation of Zhang Ning’s A Tale of Three Cities was published in CLT v8n2 (2019): 121.

2018 (8 students published 6 book reviews and 3 translations)

• Tera Mills, a Chinese major, wrote a book review of Wandering Hong Kong with Spirits, which was published in CLT v7n1 (2018): 157-158.
• Tera Mills also translated a full essay “Ai Wei the Writer,” which was published in Chinese Literature Today v7n2 (2018): 54-59.
• Benjamin Clark, a Chinese major, wrote a book review of The Roots of Wisdom: Selected Poetry of Zang Di, which was published in CLT v7n1 (2018): 156-157.
• James Fashimpaur, a Chinese major, co-translated an essay with a Chinese visiting scholar, titled “Chinese People Not Only Live in the World but Grow in the Universe: Liu Cixin and Chinese Science Fiction,” which was published in CLT v7n1 (2018): 58-61.
• James Fashimpaur’s second co-translated essay with another Chinese visiting scholar is titled “Revolution and Its Inverted Image” and was published in CLT v7n2 (2018): 61-67.
• Sara Wilson, a PhD student from the English department, wrote a book review of Empire of Glass, which was published in CLT1 (2018): 162-163.
• Beth Privrat, an OU undergraduate, wrote a book review of the novel The Cursed Piano, which was published in CLT v7n1 (2018): 154.
• Ouyang Haoyu, an exchange student from Beijing Normal University, wrote a book review of Something Crosses My Mind, which was published in CLT v7n1 (2018): 160-161.
• Emma Green (Chinese major) and Bo Liu (exchange student) co-translated a book review of On the Other Side of Mengxi River, which was published in CLT v7n1 (2018): 159-160.

• Amy Lantrip, a Chinese major, wrote a book review of Slow Boat to China and Other Stories, which was published in CLT v6n1 (2017): 130.
• Braden Johnson, a Chinese major, wrote a book review of The Matchmaker, The Apprentice, and the Football Fan, which was published in CLT v6n1 (2017): 129.
• Joshua Morrison, a Chinese major, wrote a book review of Atlas: The Archaeology of an Imaginary City, which was published in CLT v6n1 (2017): 134.

• Andrew Rankin, a Chinese major, translated the book review A Multitude of Clamor and it was published in CLT v4n1(2015): 122-123.
• Andrew Rankin’s translation of another book review of The Portrayal of Images: Social Views of Popular Culture (2008–2012) was published in CLT v4n1 (2015): 120-121.
• Benjamin Clark, a Chinese major, wrote a book review of A Phone Call from Dalian, and it was published in CLT v4n1 (2015): 121-122.
• Hannah Dillard, a Chinese major, wrote a book review of Chinese Writers on Writing and it was published in CLT v4n1 (2015): 114-115.
• Hannah Dillard’s second book review of Wind Says was published in CLT v4n1 (2015): 124-125.
• Hannah Dillard’s third book review of Zero and Other Fictions was published in CLT v4n1 (2015): 118-120.
• Amy Lantrip, a Chinese major, translated The Contest of Life and Death: Rich Chinese in Vancouver and it was published in CLT v4n1 (2015): 123-124.
• Leah Gray, a Chinese major, wrote a book review of I Can Almost See the Clouds of Dust, which was published in CLT v4n2 (2015): 88-90.

• Tahira Taqi, a Chinese minor, wrote a book review of Stone Cell, which was published in CLT v4n2 (2015): 92-93.
• Stephen Judah, a Chinese major, wrote a book review of Irina’s Hat, which was published in CLT v4n2 (2015): 87-88.

• David Stroup, an OU graduate student in Chinese politics, translated a book review of Immigrant, and it was published in CLT v3n1 (2014): 129-130.
• David Stroup translated Walking Through China’s Inner Cities: A View of History from Society’s Lowest Rung, which was published in CLT v3n1 (2014): 135-136.
